In 1993, Ilya opened Rutman's Musical Workshop, in Newton MA. His clientele grew rapidly, and in order to better serve his customers, he relocated the shop to downtown Boston on Edgerly Road.

A native of Moldavia, Russia, Ilya Rutman has been involved in instrument making and repair since 1990. He attended the North Bennet Street School in Boston, Massachusetts, where his exceptional skill and craftsmanship enabled him to quickly graduate in an unprecedented two years.
